Palm Sunday
Sunday April 13, 10:00 am
Palm Sunday is a celebration of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem, setting in motion the events that would lead to His crucifixion and resurrection, and our healing and salvation!
It is called Palm Sunday because as He rode in He was greeted by cheering crowds preparing to celebrate the Passover who laid palm branches on the road for the young colt upon which to walk.
Maundy Thursday
Thursday April 17, 7:00 pm
Jesus gathered with His disciples to celebrate the Passover, the celebration of Israel's deliverance from bondage in Egypt. Part of the remembrance of Passover is the blood of a lamb was a sign for the angel of death to spare the inhabitants of the house.
On Maundy Thursday we celebrate Jesus becoming our Passover Lamb, His death and shed blood buying for us a new and abundant life.
It is called "Maunday" from the same root as maudlin meaning sorrowful. It is a remembrance of not only the Passover but also Jesus' betrayal and arrest.
Good Friday
Friday April 18, 7:00 pm Tenebrae Service
God shows His love for us in this way; when we were dead in sin, enemies of God, the Father gave the Son to die for our sins.
Bellevue/Avalon remembers this crucial event with an annual Cross Walk, traversing the community and remembering the events of Good Friday along Lincoln Ave. We will be starting on the N. Fremont steps at New LIfe.
Our evening service is a somber remembrance of Jesus' ultimate sacrifice, and our need for it.
Good Friday is a difficult day that many would rather not deal with, but there is not Resurrection if there is no Crucifixion!
Resurrection Sunday
Sunday April 20, 10:00 am
This is what it's all about! Death has lost it's power! Jesus has defeated sin and death! We are more than conquerors!
Up from the grave He arose,
with a mighty triumph o'er His foes!
He arose the victor from the dark domain
and He lives forever with His saints to reign!
He is risen, He is risen indeed!
